Transients are believed to be responsible for a vegetation fire in Twentynine Palms last night. Firefighters from Twentynine Palms and the Combat Center were called at 10:46 p.m. to Adobe Road and Calle Todd where they found tamarisk trees and heavy vegetation burning. Twentynine Palms Firefighter Lane McGivern said the fallen needles from the trees were a couple feet deep in some places, making it difficult to put out the quarter-acre fire. Firefighters were there for two hours Monday night and returned to the spot about 6 a.m. this morning to put out any remaining hot spots.
