Joshua Tree firefighters were woken up Monday night to put out a small vegetation fire near the highway in Joshua Tree. About 11:45 p.m., dispatchers received multiple calls about the blaze, which was visible from the highway near Sunset Avenue. Firefighters found dead Joshua trees and other debris burning in a 10-foot-by-10-foot area in an empty field. No one was around when firefighters arrived. The cause of the fire is unknown.
