SMALL FIRE IN LANDERS EARLY THURSDAY MORNING

Updated Friday 3:30 p.m. with information from the Sheriff’s Department:

Arson investigators were called to the scene of an early morning fire in Landers Thursday morning. About 1:10 a.m., neighbors of a small one-room cabin in the 55800 block of Valley Hi Drive reported a fire inside the cabin; firefighters from Yucca Mesa and Yucca Valley found a bed on fire inside the cabin and were able to extinguish the blaze in about 5 minutes. Neighbors told deputies they heard the occupants—who were gone when deputies arrived—arguing about who started the fire. Investigators found a gas can with gas inside it in the cabin’s sink, and an accelerant was detected on the remains of the bed.
