Twentynine Palms firefighters made quick work of a fire at a Southern California Edison substation yesterday afternoon. According to Fire Captain Robert Marquez, just before 6:30 p.m, a malfunction ignited a transformer at the substation located on the highway at Hendys Road, on the west end of Twentynine Palms. SoCal Edison workers arrived on scene prior to the firefighters and de-energized the site, allowing them to safely put out the fire using a mixture of foam and water. Edison crews re-routed the power, and no customers were affected by the fire.
