If you drive by Sky’s the Limit, you’ll notice a new feature at the observatory and nature center. Cody Joseph scopes out the details…
At about 8 a.m. this morning, the observatory dome was permanently placed at Sky’s The Limit Observatory and Nature Center in Twentynine Palms, just outside the north entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. The 15-foot diameter operable fiberglass dome is a gift to STL from Joshua Springs Christian School in Yucca Valley. Once it is in place on Sky’s the Limit campus, it will house a 14-inch telescope donated by Celestron. The dome rotates 360 degrees, and operable shutters retract to give a clear view of celestial objects. The mount of the large telescope adjusts in height, making the scope accessible to all aspiring astronomers. Sky’s The Limit is an all-volunteer non-profit organization to facilitate hands-on experience for learning about the desert, earth, and sky.
