Sky’s The Limit Observatory and Nature Center continues the Full Moon Cultural Series with a pair of events on Saturday, July 20, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing and the importance of the moon in indigenous cultures. Reporter Rebecca Havely has more on the celebration…
Twentynine Palms artist Chuck Caplinger used to illustrate scenes of space exploration for NASA. Caplinger will read from his autobiography and display some of his NASA illustrations, and will be joined by astronomer Ray Yeager who will discuss the Apollo 11 moon landing.
The event starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Twentynine Palms Community Services building on Joe Davis Drive. Then at 8:30 p.m., the program moves to the Sky’s the Limit Observatory for a program on “The Moon Reveals,” which will honor Latino Conservation Week, with a program in Spanish, English, and American Sign Language. Blanca Villalobos will tell Native American stories. Sky’s the Limit is located on Utah Trail in Twentynine Palms, just north of the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park.
