SKY’S THE LIMIT DISCOVERY NIGHT THIS SATURDAY

Sky’s the Limit and Joshua Tree National Park will partner for a tour of the night sky this Saturday, August 31, starting at 7:30 p.m. Following presentations by Park Ranger Carey Goldstein and STL’s Ken Drummond, the public is invited to look through state-of-the-art telescopes at deep-sky objects. Families and life-long learners of all ages are welcome at this free event at Sky’s the Limit Observatory and Nature Center, just north of the entrance to the Joshua Tree National Park at 9697 Utah Trail in Twentynine Palms. Ranger Goldstein will talk about night-sky viewing opportunities in Joshua Tree National Park and will also reveal unique places to visit inside the park. Astronomer Drummond will talk about our solar system and galaxies before astronomer Rick Hiestand focuses the telescopes on Andromeda Galaxy, the Whirlpool Galaxy, and the Cigar Galaxy. Everyone is strongly encouraged to bring snacks, water bottles, chairs, and a small flashlight (red lens preferred) and dress for unpredictable desert weather. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. No pets, no smoking, and visitors must carry out their trash. For more information call Rick at 760-367-7222, visit the STL web site at www.skysthelimit29.org or email [email protected].
