Sheriff’s detectives have been called in to investigate skeletal remains that were found Thursday in Joshua Tree National Park. Just after 11 a.m., a hiker notified the Sheriff’s Department of the find. The responding deputy located the remains and sent a photo to the coroner who confirmed they were human bones. Due to the remote location, the location was secured for the night. Homicide detectives, coroner investigators, and crime scene investigators were flown in by a helicopter Friday and retrieved the partial skeletal remains. Additional examinations will be done to determine the cause of death and the identity of the remains. Anyone with information should call Detective James Tebbetts or Sergeant Ryan Smith at 909-387-3589.
