Firefighters made significant progress on the Nearby Pilot Fire over the last 24 hours. Forest Service managers say the fire is at about 8,115 acres and was 80 percent contained. The Fire is burning in chaparral and brush between Pilot Rock Ridge and State Highway 173 in Hesperia and continues to be mostly wind driven. Aircraft are being used to aid in slowing fire progression until containment lines can be constructed in the areas north and northwest of Deer Lodge Park. Terrain, heat, and wind continue to challenge the efforts of the firefighters. Evacuation orders have been lifted for Hesperia, Apple Valley, and Summit Valley.
