San Bernardino County is looking for local volunteers to participate in a count of the local unsheltered homeless population later this month. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has more about the program and how you can get involved…
The “Point-in-Time Count” is an annual survey of local homeless people in San Bernardino County. This year’s count will take place from 6 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 24. The effort will help determine the needs of the homeless population and provide information on resources available to them. The count is conducted by volunteers from every community and from all walks of life. Working in pairs and small groups, volunteers will visit locations where homeless people live, and spend time, in order to count individuals; conduct brief surveys; and distribute convenience items. Volunteers must register in advance and attend a training seminar, which will be held in Joshua Tree at 10 a.m. on January 17. For more information, or to register as a Point-In-Time-Count Volunteer, visit www.sbcounty.gov/dbh/sbchp. If you have questions regarding the count, call the San Bernardino Office of Homeless Services at (909) 386-8297 or email Michele Bletcher at [email protected].
