The program aims to encourage sustainable landscaping and growing food at home and in community and school gardens; and promote healthy living through outdoor activities. High desert residents may take the class online. The next class meets Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. January 5 through May 18. The class costs $125 and includes all training materials. A background check at an additional $25 to $35 is also required prior to providing any volunteer services. Each graduate is required to volunteer at least 50 hours in the community by June 30, 2020 and may recertify in successive years if desired and in good standing.
