Gardening in the desert is not for the faint of heart. Gardeners have to deal with extreme heat, cold, winds, poor soil, lack of rain, as well as hungry critters. The Joshua Basin Water District will hold a two-evening course on desert edible gardening on February 9 and 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. Topics covered will include winning the war against desert environmental challenges; best choices for your garden; pros and cons of container gardens, raised gardens, and hoop houses; amending the desert soil; best solutions for infestations; and water conservation for gardeners.
