There are several opportunities for residents to participate in the National Audubon Society’s annual Christmas bird count. The next count will tomorrow, December 27, at the Mojave River Valley. Meet at 6:30 a.m. at the Victorville Starbucks on the southwest corner of Bear Valley Road and Hesperia Road, three miles east of Interstate 15 (take the Bear Valley Road exit). A bird count will be held in Joshua Tree National Park on Friday, January 1. Counters will meet at 7 a.m. at one of two locations: the Indian Cove Ranger Station, or at the West Park Entrance on Park Boulevard in downtown Joshua Tree. And the last count in San Bernardino County will be at the Salton Sea on Saturday, January 2. Meet at 6:30 a.m. at the ARCO off Interstate 10 in Mecca. Regardless of which location you choose, dress warmly and in layers, as it could be cold and possibly windy. Plan on the count being an all-day event. Counters will meet at local restaurants for dinner following the bird count to compile their results. For more information, see a link in this story at z1077fm.com.
