SHOTS FIRED DURING A TWENTYNINE PALMS BREAK-IN

The Sheriff’s Department is investigating an attempted break-in Friday in Twentynine Palms during which the homeowner fired two shots at the suspect. About 4:30 a.m., a dog started barking in the 71200 block of Indian Trail, waking up its owner, who saw a man trying to slide open her bedroom window. She told the suspect, who was wearing a dark hoodie and jeans, that she had a gun and was calling police. The woman told deputies that the suspect then tried kicking in her bedroom door from the side yard, and she heard a noise and saw a small light that she thought was from a gun. The woman said she fired two shots from her .45-caliber handgun at the suspect, but missed him. The suspect fled eastbound from the home. Anyone with information should call the Sheriff’s Department at 760-366-4175.
