SHOOTING INVESTIGATION CLOSES THE HIGHWAY IN TWENTYNINE PALMS

Deputies responding to a report of shots fired in Twentynine Palms early this morning were shot at by the suspect. The deputies were not injured. The shooting occurred at the Motel 6 on the highway in Twentynine Palms about 3:30 a.m. The suspect, who is holed up in a room in the motel, shot at deputies with what is believed to have been a handgun, according to Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Joling. Joling said the deputies were not injured. He added that deputies are waiting for a search warrant, and in the meantime, have shut down the highway in both directions for safety. Joling said he hopes the highway will be re-opened by 9 a.m. Drivers should choose alternate routes. Z1077 will update with more information as it becomes available.
