SHERIFF’S PATROL CAR CRASHED INTO PICK-UP TRUCK IN JOSHUA TREE

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a crash between a Sheriff’s patrol car and a pick-up truck just after midnight Saturday morning. Sheldon Cowles, 41, of Joshua Tree, was driving a 1999 Ford F-150 pick-up truck northbound on Park Boulevard. As he was crossing Highway 62, Deputy Wayne Greer was driving a marked Sheriff’s Ford Explorer eastbound on Highway 62 in the northbound lane. Greer was responding to a Priority 1 call, and ran the red light at Park Boulevard and the highway. Greer’s patrol car had its emergency lights on, but not the siren. The two vehicles collided and the Greer’s SUV ended up on its roof in the intersection. Greer suffered minor injuries; Cowles was not injured.
