With temperatures exceeding triple digits, it is crucial for hikers to take precautions before entering Joshua Tree National Park. Bring plenty of food and water, even on short hikes; always tell someone where you are going and when you plan to be back; take occasional breaks and rest in the shade; and avoid hiking during the heat of the day between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the summer.
