A Sheriff’s deputy received minor injuries in a crash in Twentynine Palms Thursday. About 1:20 p.m., James Chien, 42, of Joshua Tree, was driving a white 1973 Chevrolet K20 northbound on Hillside Avenue in Twentynine Palms at about 20 miles per hour. An unidentified Sheriff’s deputy was driving a marked patrol vehicle westbound on Sun Valley Drive at 35 miles per hour. Chien, who was looking at street signs to find an address, failed to stop at a stop sign at Sun Valley Drive and drove directly into the path of the deputy’s patrol vehicle, which collided with the right side of Chien’s car. The deputy was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center with minor injuries; Chien declined medical attention.
