SHERIFF’S DEPUTY INVOLVED IN JOHNSON VALLEY CRASH WEDNESDAY

We have more information about a head-on crash Wednesday morning that injured two men. According to the California Highway Patrol, an on-duty Sheriff’s sergeant from the Barstow office was traveling southbound on Highway 247 in an unmarked department car, a silver Ford Taurus, about 6:15 a.m. As the unidentified deputy approached Crestview Road, he attempted to pass a vehicle and crashed head-on into a gray Nissan Altima, driven by Aldo Cantabrana, 35, of Yucca Valley. Both drivers sustained major injuries and were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center by Morongo Basin Ambulance. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
