The Sheriff’s Department is searching for the suspect in the attempted murder of a 20 year-old woman in Twentynine Palms.
On Saturday (March 1) at approximately 9:38 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies say they were flagged down by a woman walking on Twentynine Palms Highway near Larrea Ave in Twentynine Palms. Deputies say the woman was suffering from several noticeable injuries, and that she disclosed she was strangled during an altercation with a friend.
Deputies identified the suspect as John Chavarria,a 49 year-old resident of Twentynine Palms, and say that he and the victim were at a home in the 72600 block of Two Mile Road where the attack occurred.
Deputies returned to the residence, but say Chavarria was gone. A warrant for Chavarria’s arrest was issued, and he has an earlier warrant for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
