SHERIFF’S CAPTAIN TALKS ABOUT “PROBLEM-ORIENTED POLICING”

When Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Joling addressed the Yucca Valley Town Council Tuesday night, he discussed a recent problem-oriented policing project that resulted in several arrests. Deputy Bruce Southworth is assigned to this full-time position. During the 10-hour operation on Monday, several deputies contacted 40 people in Yucca Valley and made six arrests and two citations. Arrested were Jason Scalzo, 38, for possession of a controlled substance; James Burke, 23, and Robert Lopez, 46, for possession of a narcotic; Robert Stortz, 42, for panhandling; Anastasia Lee, 21, for shoplifting at Walmart; and William Marrow, 62 on a warrant. Cited and released were Justin Howe, 26, for having an open container; and Sinthya Salinas, 39, for driving without a license.
