At Tuesday’s meeting of the Yucca Valley Town Council, Sheriff’s Captain Lucas Niles was asked about burglaries in the town. Managing editor Tami Roleff says the captain offered several tips to help reduce your chance of being burglarized…
“A lot of the uptick in the theft-type crimes do seem crime of opportunity.”
Sheriff’s Captain Lucas Niles said that the numbers of burglaries has increased in about the last 10 days and says it could be due to the warmer weather, which typically brings out the thieves as well as the law-abiding residents. He urged residents to keep a look out in their neighborhoods.
“Please call if you see something suspicious. More often than not it’s when we get those calls and we’re lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, we do either apprehend the individuals that are committing those crimes, or we may [avert] something that otherwise would have happened.”
He offered these tips to reduce your chance of being burglarized.
“It’s just being vigilant—keeping your doors locked, keeping your garage doors down, and calling when you see something out of the ordinary.”
