SHERIFF MCMAHON ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

After eight and a half years of serving as the San Bernardino County Sheriff, Sheriff John McMahon has announced that he will retire next month, in the middle of his second term, which was set to expire in 2023. Cassidy Taylor has the details…

“Today I’m announcing my retirement as Sheriff of San Bernardino County, effective July 16 of this year.” – Sheriff McMahon

Sheriff McMahon was first appointed as Sheriff by the Board of Supervisors in December 2012 as the replacement for Rod Hoops. He then won election in 2014 and a re-election, unopposed, in 2018.

“For the last 36 years, I’ve been blessed to work with some of the most dedicated and hardworking law enforcement professionals. The eight and a half years serving as your Sheriff has been an honor and a privilege, a responsibility that I’ve taken very seriously.” – Sheriff McMahon

While McMahon did not give a direct reason for his retirement, he did state that the decision was made so he can focus on his personal life. As for the future…

“We have a talented and well-prepared executive management team that is ready to take our department into the future.” – Sheriff McMahon

For the last 36 years, I’ve been blessed to work with some of the most dedicated and hardworking law enforcement professionals. The eight and a half years serving as your Sheriff has been an honor and a privilege, a responsibility that I’ve taken very seriously. It is now time for me to focus on things in my personal life that require the attention of my wife, Shelly and I. The community support this department experiences is not taken lightly, and we are very grateful for it. We have a talented and well-prepared executive management team that is ready to take our department into the future. Thank you.
