Sheriff asks for help identifying driver in fatal 29 Palms hit-and-run

New details have been released in the hit-and-run death of a Twentynine Palms man, and the Sheriff’s Office is asking for help from the public in identifying a suspect.

On Friday, January 5, some time before 8:40 p.m., Christopher Plummer, a 57 year-old resident of Twentynine Palms, was walking in the 75000 block of Amboy Road when he was struck by an unknown vehicle

Deputies responded at approximately 8:40 p.m., when they said they found Plummer laying in the middle of the westbound lane of traffic with significant injuries. San Bernardino County Fire Department administered life-saving measures to Plummer, but he succumbed to his injuries as was pronounced dead at the scene.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded due to the severity of the collision, and their preliminary investigation indicated Plummer was walking west on Amboy Road when he was struck by an unknown vehicle. The involved vehicle fled the scene. This section of Amboy Road has no crosswalks or streetlights, and the roadway is straight with a dirt shoulder.

Deputies report that they are continuing the investigation, collecting video surveillance from neighbors and businesses in the area, as well as interviewing witnesses.
