The United States Marine Corps will be closing the shared-use area in Johnson Valley beginning tomorrow, Friday, August 11 through August 25 for its annual large-scale training exercise. Originally, the shared use area was to be closed for the entire month of August.
The two-week closure includes the time required to ensure the area is clear of recreational activity prior to training, and that the area is free of military hazards after the training has been completed before it’s re-opened to the public.
The adjacent Johnson Valley OHV Recreation Area will remain open to the public during the closure of the Shared Use Area.
The Marine Corps is required to announce a year in advance when it expects to use the shared use area, and it has set the dates for next year’s exercise as August 1-30. A map of the area can be seen at a link in this story at z1077fm.com.
