A registered sex offender was arrested after he was found with drugs in Landers. A deputy contacted Michael Hawley, 55, of Joshua Tree, near the 1300 block of North Landers Lane about 8:45 a.m. Sunday. Deputies told Hawley he had warrants for his arrest, but when they tried to handcuff him, he said he wanted to close his car door. However, deputies saw a rifle on the floorboard inside the car, and when they tried to prevent him from reaching his car, he resisted arrest. Deputies say Hawley is a registered sex offender who has not lived at his registered address for about two years. Deputies found suspected methamphetamine on Hawley’s person. Michael Hawley was arrested for investigation of possession of a controlled substance, and for failing to register as a sex offender; booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $25,000.
