SEX OFFENDER ARRESTED FOR CARRYING A KNIFE

A Yucca Valley man was arrested late Wednesday night after he was found carrying a knife in his pocket. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy stopped Earnest Akins, 43, who was walking near Airway Drive and Highway 62 about 11 p.m. When the deputy asked Akins to take his hands out of his pockets, Akins allegedly said he had a knife and removed it from his pocket fully extended before dropping it to the ground. Akins said he carried the knife for protection. Earnest Akins was arrested on suspicion of carrying a dirk or dagger, and failure to register as a sex offender. He was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with bail set at $80,000.
