The famous American author Mark Twain is reported to have said “the reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated” when a reporter asked him about a rumor that he had died. The same can be said of a colorful art installation on Interstate 15 on the way to Las Vegas. Managing editor Tami Roleff has more information…
Seven Magic Mountains are seven towers of stacked boulders painted in Day-Glo colors that are visible along Interstate 15 about 10 miles from Las Vegas. The art installation, by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone, was first opened to the public in 2016 on land owned by the Bureau of Land Management. It was originally scheduled to be on display for two years, but the BLM granted a three-year extension in 2018. A spokeswoman for the Nevada Museum of Art, which is in charge of the installation, told Z107.7 News that the museum is “currently pursuing a permit that would allow the artwork to be on view for an additional five years. We won’t know for certain for a few months, but that is the work in progress.” So, visitors to Las Vegas will hopefully have a few more years to enjoy the colorful and popular artwork.
