Dorothy Angil, a 58-year-resident of Twentynine Palms, died Monday, September 17. She was 96 years old. Dorothy Angil was in the Marine Corps’ second graduating class of women Marines and served in World War II and the Korean War. She moved to Twentynine Palms in 1959 and worked 10 years at Twentynine Palms Elementary School and on the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps base as a civilian employee for 10 years. She then served as a volunteer for the then-Joshua Tree National Monument for 20 years. She was the Military Grand Marshal for the 2016 Pioneer Days parade. A service is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, September 22, at the Twentynine Palms United Methodist Church, 6250 Mesquite Spring Road, with Chaplain Johnson officiating. A graveside service will follow in the Twentynine Palms cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Wounded Warrior Project or your favorite charity.
