Since 1948, Morongo Basin Ambulance has functioned as one of the only non-profit emergency medical transport services in California and this month, they are asking for your support. Reporter Heather Clisby has details…
For 71 years, Morongo Basin Ambulance (MBA) has been transporting desert dwellers needing medical care without utilizing public funding or tax dollars. MBA’s primary funding source has been private donations and government health insurance reimbursements.
But while maintenance costs have risen, funding has not, so the MBA is declaring September ‘Support Morongo Basin Ambulance Month’ and asking for public donations. Contributions will help fund service improvements, technology upgrades, modernized medical equipment, supplies and maintenance for the five ambulances that service 2,700 square miles. In 2018, MBA had 2,691 calls.
Individuals and organizations can make a tax-deductible donation online by visiting www.donate2mba.org or www.donatetomba.org. Checks or money orders can be mailed to: Morongo Basin Ambulance, PO Box 460, Joshua Tree, CA, 92252. Please include an email address if sending by mail.
