Theatre 29’s 20th anniversary season finale production is “Once Upon A Mattress,” the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical that tells the tale of “the Princess and the Pea.” Director Kathryn Ferguson is seeking 25 to 30 singers for the cast. Reporter Rebecca Havely has the audition details…
“Once Upon A Mattress” auditions are set for Sunday, September 29, at 5 p.m. Principle roles include Princess Winnifred, 20s to 30s; she has a strong belt voice and good comedic skills. Queen Aggravian is an alto in her 50s to 60s; she’s loud and stubborn. Lady Larken is a soprano; she’s pregnant and madly in love. Prince Dauntless is 18 to 35 and needs good mime and improv skills. The Minstrel is a tenor who narrates the story. The Wizard is an egotistical henchman to the Queen. Sir Harry is macho, but romantic, and is a tenor in his 20s to 30s. The Jester is energetic and peppy; he’s 20 to 40. The Nightingale is a child 10 or older that sings a lullaby and can whistle. Directors will also be casing an ensemble of characters including ladies-in-waiting, soldiers, servants, musicians, and more. Come ready to dance, prepare 16 bars of a show tune, and bring a non-vocal backing track on your mobile device.
