Paul Miller, 51, was last seen by his wife at around 9 a.m. Friday when he left to hike to 49 Palms Oasis, park spokesman George Land said. Miller's vehicle was found in the parking lot at the trailhead of 49 Palms Oasis, he said. Approximately 35 searchers with Morongo Basin Search and Rescue are combing the area with the help of search K-9 units, a helicopter from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department joined the effort later Saturday morning. Miller is a white man, 5 feet 5 inches tall, with salt and pepper hair, brown eyes, and weighing 160 pounds. He is likely wearing dark shorts, hiking boots, and has a gray/black camelback-style backpack. Anyone who may have seen Miller or knows of his whereabouts is asked to call 909-383-5651.
