The Morongo Unified School District’s Board of Education will hold a public hearing Tuesday on whether to change the name of the Twentynine Palms High School Wildcat Gym to the Richard Casey Memorial Gym.
Casey, a popular math teacher and football coach at the school for nearly three decades, passed away last year at the age of 53. Extremely active in community affairs, he was, among other things, known for starting the custom of “Tie Tuesday,” a weekly ritual during which students and faculty members wear neckties.
Tuesday’s public hearing will be held as part of the board’s regular meeting beginning 7 p.m. at Oasis Elementary School on El Paseo Drive.
