Changes in the law requiring immunizations for students at public schools are affecting many thousands in the state. Reporter David Haldane said the new vaccination requirements are much tougher…
Do you object to having your child immunized against common diseases at school? Well, deal with it! That’s the message being sent by California Governor Jerry Brown who recently signed a bill eliminating personal belief exemptions from the requirement that all school children be vaccinated.
The law, which went into effect on January 1, allows some to keep their exemptions until entering the next grade. With many schools starting in September, however, thousands will now have to comply.
Under the new legislation, all California children attending public or private schools and child-care facilities through twelfth grade must show proof of necessary vaccinations. The only exceptions are those with valid medical exemptions authorized by licensed medical doctors.
Bottom line: like it or not, better get to the doctor in time.
