With ongoing concerns from students and parents of students regarding bullying taking place in District schools, the Morongo Unified School District will host its second anti-bullying school forum to promote conversation, discussion, and problem solving on multiple bullying topics. Reporter Andrew Dieleman has the details…
Teachers, students, parents/guardians of students, and members of the public who are concerned about bullying taking place in District schools are invited to attend the MUSD second anti-bullying forum. There will be multiple tables set up to discuss prominent bullying topics including what behavior constitutes bullying, cyberbullying, and student’s home environments. Questions will be answered by school district principals, mental health experts, Board of Education members, students, and classroom teachers. Participants will rotate to a different bullying topic every 15 minutes. The forum will be held on Wednesday, March 4, at 5:00 p.m. at La Contenta Middle School, 7050 La Contenta Road, in Yucca Valley.
The topics are as follows:
- How do families communicate with the school when they have bullying issues?
- Social Media: Parental monitoring and school responsibility.
- How do you help a child who is being bullied? How do you assist in developing resiliency?
- What is bullying? What bullying is not. How to recognize if bullying is actually occurring. What to do when your child engages in bullying behavior.
- How does home environment affect student behavior at school? What can parents do to ensure your child is NOT a bully? How do you teach empathetic behavior?
