Local teachers have reached an impasse in their contract with the Morongo Unified School District. Reporter David Haldane says a statement from the district outlines the two side’s positions…
Contract negotiations between the Morongo Unified School District and the union representing its teachers have ended in an apparent impasse, according to a statement issued by the district.
The teachers have been working without a contract since last June. But while negotiators for the district and the Morongo Teachers’ Association have come to agreement on several issues including working hours and convenience leave, they are still far apart on the all-important issue of salary, with the district proposing a 2.25 percent increase countered by the teacher’s demand for an increase of 7.25 percent.
Other issues still separating the two sides include the district’s contribution to employee health benefit premiums and bonuses for class size.
The last negotiating session ended on January 20.
