It looks like last year’s bitter and protracted contract negotiations between the school district and its teachers may not be repeated. At least not this time around. Reporter David Haldane explains…
In an apparent effort to avoid the mistakes of the past, the Morongo Unified School District Board of Education tonight will consider approving a tentative contract agreement with the Morongo Teacher’s Association.
That’s nearly twelve months less than it took the two sides to reach agreement in last year’s tumultuous negotiations, during which district teachers worked without any contract at all.
Though nothing is final before being ratified by both the board and the union’s full membership, an early draft of the tentative agreement calls for an across-the-board salary increase of .5%.
Tonight’s meeting gets underway 7 p.m. at Joshua Tree Elementary School on Sunburst Avenue.
