SCHOOL DISTRICT ESTABLISHES EMERGENCY CORONAVIRUS PLAN

With the ongoing threat of the spread of Coronavirus in California, concerns have emerged over whether California’s school districts have emergency plans in place in the event that students, staff, or faculty members contract the virus. Morongo Unified School District Superintendent Tom Baumgarten told Z107.7 news that MUSD has been coordinating with the California Department of Public Health and the CDC since February 7 to promote proactive measures to avoid contracting the virus and establish an emergency guidance plan in the event the coronavirus is detected at any District school. Reporter Andrew Dieleman has the details of that plan…

According to the school District’s emergency plan; any staff, faculty, or students showing symptoms of coronavirus will be immediately separated and sent home. If the case is confirmed to be coronavirus, the District will communicate with local health officers to determine the level of risk and with the community for continuous situation updates. A school closure many be necessary for the District to implement CDC disinfection guidelines. Students, staff, and faculty from the school many be encouraged to remain socially isolated as a precaution. The full proactive avoidance and emergency guidance documents are available below.
