Just hours after issuing strict guidelines which would prohibit maskless students in grades K-12 from entering school campuses in California, the state retracted the guidelines. According to the now-retracted guidelines which were issued Monday afternoon (July 12), students who refused to wear a mask, who were not exempt from wearing a mask, would be denied access to the school campus. Just hours after the guidelines were issued, state health officials retracted the guidelines, giving local school districts more flexibility in enforcing the use of masks on school campuses. Here in the Morongo Basin, student mask mandates are still evolving. According to Morongo Unified School District Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Sharon Flores, MUSD is waiting to see what guidance the district receives from the county health department before making a final decision on mask mandates for students.
