SCHOOL BOARD TO LEAVE SEAT OPEN AFTER RESIGNATION OF MICHAEL CHLEBIK

The Morongo Unified School District dealt with a variety of matters at last night’s lengthy board meeting. Reporter Andrew Dieleman has the details…

At last night’s meeting, the MUSD board of trustees held a brief discussion on a recent board vacancy. Board member Michael Chlebik resigned from the board, effective May 15. The board elected to leave the position temporarily vacant, waiting until the November 6 election to fill the position.

The board also approved a one-year trial of the community eligibility program—which would provide free meals for MUSD students—and attended an emotional dedication ceremony at the Twentynine Palms Junior High School where the Ron Palmer Technology lab was officially unveiled to a group of more than 50 people.

During the work study session at 5 p.m., the board held a discussion of recent bond survey results, which the board opted to continue to later meetings.

In open session, the board heard a brief presentation from Twentynine Palms Junior High School’s Safe School Ambassadors, an anti-bullying team.

The board then recognized 27 classified and certificated employees who have served the district for between 20 and 40 years, and recognized the retirement of eight classified and certificated employees from the district.
