SCHOOL BOARD TO CONSIDER ELECTIONS BY DISTRICTS

The city of Twentynine Palms, town of Yucca Valley, and Morongo Unified School District all received letters from a lawyer threatening legal action unless they changed the way council and board members are elected, from “at large” elections to “district” elections. At its last meeting in October, the school board voted to table any action on the issue; board member Michael Chlebik said the issues were so complex the board needed extra time to study it to make the right decision. Tonight, the school board will hold a closed session meeting to take up the issue at 5 p.m. in the school district’s conference room, 5715 Utah Trail in Twentynine Palms.
