The Morongo Unified School District had a lot on its plate at last night’s regularly-scheduled board meeting. The meeting began with Superintendent Tom Baumgarten swearing in both newly elected and returning board members. Newly elected board member Kerri Condley was welcomed to the board. Chris Proudfoot was sworn in for his third term on the board and Hilary Slotta was sworn in for her second term. Reporter Andrew Dieleman has the full meeting details…
Once all board members had been sworn in, the board then began the process of reorganization, electing officer positions for the next term. Chris Proudfoot was elected as Board President, Karalee Hargrove as Board Clerk, Kerri Condley as District Representative for County Committee on School District Organization, Hilary Slotta as Legislative Representative, and Tom Baumgarten as Secretary of the Board. The board then held a work study session on both the first Interim Financial Report and district data. Lastly, the board discussed a new board member vacancy, which the board unanimously agreed to appoint for. According to Superintendent Tom Baumgarten, the board will issue a press release on December 12 announcing the position. The board then went into closed session to conference with designated bargaining representatives. In open session, beginning at 7 p.m., the board adopted the first interim financial report from the work study session, held a public hearing on the school district’s 2017-2018 Statutory School Facilities report, and recognized Twentynine Palms High School football coach Ernie Martinez for his 150th victory during his tenure at the school.
