Recurring needs brought up during the presentations included increasing student proficiency in English Language Arts and Mathematics, increasing student attendance rates, increasing student safety, and minimizing student suspensions. The board also approved the acceptance of a $37,500 Grant for the creation of an emergency management program; received an update on the progress of the District’s Copper Cabling Program, updating and upgrading the District’s computer network system; and approved numerous course outlines and textbooks. During public comment; numerous students, teachers, and parents of students from Yucca Valley High School requested that the Board discuss setting aside district funds to help replace the aging instruments and uniforms in the school’s music program. After the meeting, Superintendent Tom Baumgarten stated that the Board would have to review the District budget at a future meeting before any financial decisions could be made.
