The Morongo Unified School District board of education also made a final decision at last night’s meeting to move to trustee area elections, and
selected a final district map in the process. Here’s reporter Andrew Dieleman with the details…
The Morongo Unified School District board of education meeting began with a work study session to select one of two proposed trustee-area district maps: Purple or Orange. Board members weighed the pros and cons of both maps extensively. In open session, beginning at 7 p.m., the board officially adopted the resolution to accept the trustee area election system, ultimately selecting the Purple map. This districting map unites preexisting school zones as best as possible. Board superintendent Tom Baumgarten stated that the decision to accept this change was needed to protect the district’s money from lawsuits.
The board held another work study session to discuss refinancing current district bonds to lower rates, and possibly pursue new bonds in the future.
In open session, the board held a public hearing on the employment status of noon supervisors, stating that the agreement was tentatively reached.
There was no public comment. The board also adopted a firearm policy, which states that only law-enforcement personnel are permitted to bring
firearms into school ground. Lastly the board was introduced to Miss Yucca Valley 2018 Madison Tuttle and her court, all of whom stated that they were very excited to begin serving the desert community.
The following link shows the district dividing lines of both proposed maps: Purple and Orange. The Purple map was selected as the new district map.
