Superintendent Tom Baumgarten presented an a update on the new Academy of College and Career Excellence. Plans now include partnerships with local government, the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center and the Hi-Desert Healthcare District. In addition, Copper Mountain College will provide the computer lab for online courses and assessment. The next step, Baumgarten explained, is to get students enrolled for January classes, then, finalize the lease for Yucca Valley’s Town Center Mall; the additional 8,000 square feet will accommodate up to 150 additional students. The board then awarded bids to multiple vendors for 363 Microsoft Surface Pro 4 tablets.
