At last night’s meeting, the MUSD Board of Trustees held a work study session with staff, faculty and parents from the district’s PLUS program; hearing emotional testimonies on the program’s gradual improvement, student goals, and overall success rate. In open session, the board agreed by a split decision of four-to-one to make the new PLUS program Campus Supervisor position a single six-hour postiion instead of two three-hour positions. Trustee John Cole opposed. The board then geard a proposal from Waste Not Morongo Basin to convert the old Joshua Tree Elementary School building into a food bank. The board will take the proposal into consideration when making a final decision on the property. The board also adopted the updated Board Governance handbook, appointed Dr. Deborah Turner as Secretary to the Board, and approved numerous new board policies and bylaws.
