The Morongo Unified School District Board of Education meeting was split between workshops and regular business. Today, reporter Dan Stork tells about the budget workshop…
During a public workshop preceding the regular session of the Morongo Unified School District Board of Education meeting, Assistant Superintendent Sharon Flores presented the 2nd Interim Budget report. The principal revision in this version was to add back in personnel costs for the positions that the Board refused to cut at its last meeting. Flores listed many areas of fiscal concern for the District:
- Projected deficit spending for 3 years;
- Continued enrollment decline (down over 1300 since 2008);
- State funding rules uncertainty;
- Retirement reform;
- The Yucca Valley sewer project;
- Affordable Care Act impact;
- Core textbook adoptions and Common Core implementation;
- Technology needs
- And ROP funding reductions.
