The Morongo Unified School District board of Trustees had quite a bit on their plate during last night’s marathon 4 ½ hour board meeting, including honoring outstanding teachers and faculty and announcing the retirement of one of its prominent administrators. Reporter Andrew Dieleman was there and files this report…
At last night’s meeting, the MUSD Board of Trustees honored more than 50 teachers and classified employees from positions throughout the District in honor of “Day of the Teacher” and “Classified School Employees Week.” Later in the meeting, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Deborah Turner announced that she would be retiring from the district on June 30, after spending more than 30 years with the school district.
The Board also met in closed session to conference with labor negotiators and to hold a public employee performance evaluation with the superintendent, heard a presentation on updates made to the district’s student wellness policy, and officially adopted May 8 as the district’s “Day of the Teacher” and the week of May 19-25 as the district’s “Classified School Employees Week.” Lastly, the board voted unanimously to continue its community eligibility provision (CEP) meal program, which was originally introduced on a one-year trial basis. The board tabled the adoption of the 2019-2020 board meeting calendar pending further discussion during the next regularly-scheduled board meeting on May 28.
