SCHOOL BOARD GETS BUSING UPDATE

As is usually the case at meetings of the Morongo Unified School District, all items on the action agenda passed with little or no discussion. Reporter Dan Stork says that there were some notable presentations and reports on busing, student recognition, and more…
Patrick Lucci, the Director of Transportation for the Morongo Unified School District, gave the Board of Education a status report on the busing operation. In the spring of this year, ridership was up by almost 200 students over the 2013 count, with the increase coming entirely in the west end of the District. He lamented that the newly-implemented Local Control Funding Formula cost the District about $700,000 in transportation funds. He recounted that operations this school year had a rocky start, citing errors in data supplied by schools and driver errors. He said that driver performance improved after an additional training seminar. Lucci reserved special unhappiness with short staffing of bus drivers by the busing vendor, First Student, which is in the last year of its current contract with the District.
In honor of National Disabilities Awareness Month, the Board singled out for recognition several students, whose accomplishments were praised by their principals or teachers. They are:
LES: Christina Michal MVES: Zoie Cullen
ONES: Jaden Dudra YMES: JR Foley
YVES: Roger Boniface LCMS: Faith Gates
BRHS: Tatiana Ventura YVHS: Colby Compton
In her report, Black Rock High School student representative Briana Wallace described how the entirety of minimum days are devoted to integrated lessons on a single topic, for the entire school – most recently on the Constitution of the United States.
