The Morongo Unified School District board of Trustees met in open session last night, meeting with four music teachers from across the district to discuss current district music classes, student music competitions, professional development for students, and the overall success of the classes. The board also discussed working with the teachers to possibly bring music programs to more district schools in the future. Reporter Andrew Dieleman has more on the meeting…
During open session of last night’s meeting, the MUSD Board of Trustees were again met by former Yucca Valley High School track and cross country coach Jay Stepp, along with more than 20 protesters, comprised primarily of Jay’s former student athletes. During public comment, Stepp argued against what he called “weak district leadership,” and protestors argued that the board should reinstate him as a coach. After the meeting, Superintendent Tom Baumgarten stated that the board always hears the concerns of protestors, but since the situation is an ongoing personnel matter, no public comment could be made.
The board also discussed and accepted the 2019-2020 second interim budget report, approved the absence of Trustee Karalee Hargrove from the Board’s February 25 meeting, and authorized bids for roof repairs at Yucca Valley High School.
